About Us
Who works at Yoko Co? What's your team like?
Yoko Co has a full team of strategists, project managers, designers, and developers who work exclusively with associations and mission-driven organizations.
The company is led by Chris Yoko, founder and CEO. Our VP of Strategy, Ray van Hilst, brings over 20 years of marketing experience across Fortune 500 brands, nonprofits, and associations, and our Director of Strategy, Bree Richmond, has more than 25 years focused on association and nonprofit marketing. Max Lollar is our President and Creative Director, and Julia Dominguez is our VP of Operations.
Every project also gets a dedicated project manager, UX strategist, designer, and developer, most with a decade or more of experience in their discipline.
What's your company culture like?
Every member of our team is driven by the idea of helping to facilitate positive change in the world, and we're built around ownership, curiosity, and delivering real outcomes and impact. We care about the organization behind the work as much as the work itself, which is why "Do good. Better." is more than a tagline for us.
The Washington Business Journal and Inc. 5000 have both named us a great place to work, and we think that shows up in how we treat clients too.
Interested in working here? Check out our careers page.
Do you have case studies or references I can see?
Of course! Take a look at our case studies page to see examples of our work and impact, along with client testimonials. We're also glad to connect you with references from organizations similar to yours. Just ask and we'll set it up.
Where is your team based?
We're headquartered in McLean, VA, with CEO Chris Yoko and several other key members of the team in the DC/MD/VA area. Beyond that, we're largely remote, with many team members spread across the United States, Canada, and around the world.
How long have you been in business?
We've been at this since 2009. In 2014, we made the deliberate choice to work only with organizations driven by a purpose beyond profit, and we've been focused on doing good ever since. You can learn more on our history page.
What organizations are you a part of?
We're members of ASAE, NTEN and Friends of AWTC. This helps keep us plugged into the broader nonprofit and association technology community, beyond the work we do with our clients.
Can you show me work examples in my industry/vertical?
Yes! Take a look at our case studies for real-world examples of our work. Remember, you can use the filters at the top to narrow down the projects to the ones most relevant to you.
We haven't included all of our work on our case studies page (we've built 500+ websites), so if you don't see your specific niche represented, tell us more about your organization and we'll point you to the most relevant projects.
Working Together
How long does a typical website redesign take?
It really depends on the size, scope, complexity, and urgency of a project. With the wind at our backs, we've launched smaller sites in a matter of days or weeks. Larger site builds with multiple integrations are typically measured in months.
We build a custom timeline for every project, and are always happy to find flexible and creative ways to help you to meet a hard deadline (like if you're changing your AMS or CRM).
What does your discovery/UX research process look like?
Our process runs through five phases: Discovery, Design, Development, Deployment, and Delivery. Discovery is where we dig into your goals, your members, and your existing content before any design work starts, typically through a content audit, a UX audit, and journey mapping, plus a data audit if your AMS or CRM is part of the picture.
Getting that foundation right, and getting your internal team's roles and timeline sorted early, is what separates smooth redesigns from rocky ones.
Do you do user testing or tree testing before launch?
Definitely. Usability testing is a standard phase in our process, and depending on the project, that can include tree testing before we finalize navigation and site structure. It's a phase we largely lead, so it takes very little of your team's time to participate in.
Do we get a dedicated project team?
Absolutely. We build a dedicated team around your project, with a project manager, strategist, designer, and developer assigned specifically to you.
We may fine-tune that staffing plan early on to make sure the mix of skills and personalities is the right fit for your organization, but once the team is set, they'll stay with you through the life of the project.
Can you migrate our content for us?
Of course. We regularly migrate organizations off of legacy CMS platforms and dated custom builds, carrying your content, integrations, and SEO equity along with you.
What do you need from us to get started?
Before kickoff, we'll ask you to name one internal project manager with real time carved out for this project, along with a decision-maker for each major area so feedback doesn't stall in committee.
We'll also want access to your existing content and a clear sense of your goals and timeline. The more reconciled your budget, timeline, and feature list are going in, the smoother the rest of the process will be.
What results have other organizations seen working with you?
We've delivered transformational impact to a wide range of organizations. The best way to see this is through our case studies, where you can walk through the challenge, our approach, and the outcome for real-world projects.
Products & Services
What services does Yoko Co offer?
You can find more information on our services page, but generally speaking, we offer a full range of services including branding and messaging, website design and development, custom development, marketing and automation, SEO and consulting, video and animation, media buying, hosting and maintenance, accessibility and compliance, and AI solutions and strategy.
Many clients start with a website or hosting project and add other services as needs come up, but you can also engage us for a single service on its own.
Do you offer web hosting?
Yes. Our hosting includes optimized cloud infrastructure, 24/7 monitoring, malware scanning, automatic backups, and a web application firewall, plus ongoing updates to your CMS, plugins, and software. We also offer a Total Website Health package that adds ongoing accessibility and compliance monitoring on top of that.
Do you use templates or do custom design?
No, we don't use templates, unless specifically requested. Every project gets custom design and development work optimized for your organization, users, members, and goals.
Do you do smaller projects, or only full redesigns?
Both! In addition to full redesigns, we build microsites for annual meetings and events, member directories, landing pages, marketing campaigns, and even website refreshes for organizations that need a lighter touch more than a full rebuild.
Pricing & Scope
How much does a website redesign cost?
It really depends on the size, scope, complexity, and timeline of your project. Get in touch for a custom quote.
Do you offer fixed-bid or hourly/retainer pricing?
Redesign projects are typically scoped and priced as fixed packages, so you know your investment upfront and there are no unexpected invoices. Ongoing work after launch, like hosting, maintenance, or continued strategy support, can be billed fixed-fee or as an hourly retainer, depending on the situation.
What's included in a typical proposal?
We'll provide a comprehensive, easy-to-digest overview of your project scope, timeline, strategic opportunities, and details about your potential redesign team. You'll quickly be able to get a sense of whether we're the right fit for each other. If you'd like to request a proposal, or send us your RFP, get in touch.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance/support packages after launch?
Yes. After launch, we offer ongoing hosting and maintenance packages that include software and security updates, monitoring, backups, and support, plus our Total Website Health package if you also want ongoing accessibility and compliance monitoring built in.

We build a custom timeline for every project, and are always happy to find flexible and creative ways to help you to meet a hard deadline (like if you're changing your AMS or CRM).
Technology & Integrations
What CMS and technology do you work with?
WordPress is our primary platform, but we've also worked with a wide range of others including Strapi, Framer, headless, Drupal, and more. We've built and host hundreds of WordPress sites, our team has contributed to numerous open-source WordPress projects.
What AMS platforms do you integrate with?
We've integrated with just about every AMS on the market. Ready-to-go integrations include NimbleAMS, Fonteva, Salesforce, Re:Members, MemberSuite, NoviAMS, Neon CRM, Altai, Personify, and iMIS, and we build custom integrations for platforms like NetForum, Protech, Euclid, Rhythm, and Aptify. If your AMS isn't on this list, ask us. Chances are we've worked with it or something similar.
Can you set up single sign-on (SSO) between our website and our AMS?
Absolutely. We build smart-redirect SSO that gets members where they're trying to go without extra login steps, and we can extend that same single sign-on across your LMS, member community, journal platform, and other systems beyond just your AMS.
Can you migrate us away from a legacy CMS?
Yes. We regularly migrate organizations off legacy CMS platforms and dated custom builds onto WordPress or another modern platform, carrying your content, integrations, and SEO equity along with you.
Can you integrate with our LMS, event platform, or career center?
Yes. Beyond AMS and CRM integration, we regularly connect member websites to learning management systems, event platforms, career centers, and member communities, all under one single sign-on so members aren't juggling multiple logins.
What is AMS Connect?
AMS Connect is our WordPress plugin built specifically to integrate with the Re:Members AMS platform. It handles member authentication and SSO, syncs roles and permissions automatically, and keeps custom fields like event registrations and committee memberships up to date between WordPress and Re:Members. If you're on a different AMS, ask us. We take the same integration approach even without this specific plugin.
Post Launch & Ongoing Support
What happens after our site launches?
We think of launch as the start of the relationship, not the end of it. Most clients move into an ongoing hosting and maintenance plan with us, so your site stays updated, secure, and monitored well after we ship it, and some choose an ongoing retainer for marketing strategy and execution to help ensure they get the most out of their new site.
Do you offer training for our staff to manage our new site?
Yes. Training happens before launch as a standard part of our process, so your team is ready to manage the new site from day one instead of scrambling to learn it after we hand over the keys.
What if something breaks after launch?
Every build we do comes with a warranty, so if something breaks shortly after launch and it's our fault, we'll fix it for free. If you're on one of our hosting and maintenance plans, we're already monitoring around the clock for uptime, security threats, and malware.
Do you offer ongoing support?
Of course! We have a dedicated in-house technical support team (real humans, not robots!) who are available for troubleshooting, bug fixes, malware repair, questions, or anything else you might need. Our support team is tightly integrated with our project teams, so even if you're meeting them for the first time, they have deep technical context and background on your website.
We also offer ongoing hosting and maintenance packages that include software and security updates, monitoring, backups, and support, plus our Total Website Health package if you also want ongoing accessibility and compliance monitoring built in.
Accessibility & Compliance
Do you build websites to be ADA/WCAG compliant?
Yes. We run accessibility audits and WCAG testing throughout a project, design with accessibility in mind from the start, including contrast, screen reader compatibility, and senior-friendly design, and offer ongoing monitoring and compliance reporting after launch. We can build to whatever WCAG standard you need to target, from A, AA, to AAA and beyond.
Do you handle 508 compliance for government-adjacent associations?
Yes, we offer Section 508 compliance, along with a wide range of other accessibility and compliance services.
Can you do a VPAT?
Yes, we can handle accessibility audits, VPATs, and Accessibility Conformance Reports.
SEO & Findability
Do you do SEO as part of a redesign?
Yes. SEO is built into how we design and structure sites from the start, covering things like keyword research, schema markup, metadata, and site architecture, not bolted on after launch. We also offer ongoing SEO and content optimization as a standalone service.
Do you do AEO?
Yes. We structure and tag your content, including creating schema markup, so AI assistants and answer engines can understand and surface it, in addition to traditional search engines.
Can you help our content show up in AI search tools like ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews?
Yes. We structure and tag your content so it can be surfaced by AI assistants and answer engines, and we can build AI-powered site search and chat tools that make your own content easier for users to find too. Learn more on our AI Solutions page.
Do you help with Google Ad Grants?
Yes. We've helped association and nonprofit clients take advantage of Google Ad Grants.
Working with Associations
Do you only work with associations?
No. While we have deep experience working with a many different associations of all shapes and sizes, we also regularly work with organizations from a wide variety of other industries.
Have you worked with associations like mine?
Yes. We've built websites for associations across healthcare, technology, security, engineering, and dozens of other sectors, including organizations like the Security Industry Association, the Internet Society, America's Blood Centers, and the National Academy of Sciences. Whatever your niche, there's a good chance we've already solved a similar problem for someone like you. Take a look at our case studies page to see a selection of our work.
Do you only work with big associations?
No. We work with associations of all sizes, from small member organizations to large, multi-chapter associations connecting members around the world.
Do you work with small associations?
Yes. Your size doesn't determine whether we're a fit, your goals and needs do. We scope every project around what your organization actually needs, not a one-size-fits-all package.
Are you a member of ASAE?
Yes, we're a member of ASAE, the American Society of Association Executives. It's part of how we stay current on what associations actually need from their websites and technology.
ASAE & Events
Are you a member of ASAE?
Yes, we're a member of ASAE, the American Society of Association Executives. It's part of how we stay current on what associations actually need from their websites and technology.
Where's your booth at ASAE Annual?
For ASAE Annual 2026 in Indianapolis, you can find us at Booth 110. Stop by to say hello or talk through your website questions in person. We can't wait to meet you!
Can I schedule a meeting with you at ASAE Annual?
Yes. Email [email protected], or reach out directly to Ray, Jared, or Angie if you already know them, and we'll get time on the calendar.
I heard something about "Association Feud." What is it?
Association Feud is our take on Family Feud. We surveyed association executives on their top questions, and now conference attendees compete to guess the most popular answers. It's a blast!
