We here at Yoko Co are happy to share that we have continued our streak of carbon neutrality for the 5th year. We’ve been doing this for a while now, #humblebrag, and we’ve posted about it each and every year. We do this because we think it’s important and Good. Most of the Good we do, we tend to do quietly with our heads down.
We break that silence and post about this because we aim to show people it isn’t that hard. It is very doable – it does not take nearly as much time or expense as you might fear. You, yes you reading this, your organization can totally do this. If you’re curious, reach out, we’re happy to share how we’ve done it and lend a hand for you to do the same.
As for our emissions, we believe in remaining transparent about them. Last year our operational emissions decreased, however, our overall emissions increased significantly due to two factors; increased travel and our in person retreat.
Our operational emissions were 22.09 tonnes, increased travel accounting for 9.48 tonnes and the retreat alone accounting for 24.72 tonnes. Leaving us with a 2024 total of 56.3 tonnes:

If you’re unfamiliar with becoming Carbon Neutral, it is the process of reducing your carbon emissions, which are broken into 3 scopes. Then offsetting (removing, canceling out) those you can’t help emitting. Carbon Trust’s brief provides more detailed information.
We’ve been diligent about keeping our emissions low, and also understand that operating in our modern world and economy requires emissions be made. For those we cannot avoid, we work through Verra, to support various projects to offset these emissions.
- 23 Tonnes via support for Hydroelectric Power in Indonesia
- 29 Tonnes via destruction and repurposing of Methane in Thailand
- 5 Tonnes via REDD+ Forest Conservation and Replenishment in Zimbabwe
We also take this initiative a step further and offset our team’s personal individual carbon footprints through Carbon Off, built in collaboration with GWU’s EEMI.
